Just spent an intense but rewarding 5 weeks taking Drawing Fundamentals at the Laguna College of Art and Design. Got lots of practice with charcoal, proportions and shading.
Our family got a sea aquarium last fall, which inspired me to do this piece entitled "Ocean Light" with colored pencils and gouache. It won the Wyland "Water is Life" individual challenge in December. I just found out today that it was also selected to be displayed at South Coast Plaza for the OCDE's 1,000 Pieces of Art and also the Laguna Festival of the Arts, Junior Art Exhibit over the summer. So exciting!
I was doodling and playing with some contrasting colors and shapes. The end result was decent but nothing spectacular. However, when I inverted the colors, they became so much more vibrant to me. Then I added a series of haikus on top then submitted it for OC Imaginology. The piece entitled "Dystopia" was selected as division winner for illustrated haiku. As you can imagine, I've been reading a bunch of dystopian literature lately, including Hunger Games, Divergent, 1984, Fahrenheit 451 among others. My cover of Apprentice of the Elements also won for the book design category. Be sure to visit OC Imaginology this weekend. There's always lots of neat exhibits and activities for kids. Can't wait to check it out!
A message and trinket in tribute to my special Harry Potter themed day.
I've been having fun with Sculpey polymer clay. Aren't they yummy!
Getting some of my latest artwork ready for the upcoming Kids Mini Marketplace and BEE Interdisciplinary Day. I'd like to present... Pizza Chameleon, Dragon Rider, and Fire Tree of Life and Death.
